Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration is to be held on Saturday, April 28th from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Fairfield Warde High School. Fairfield’s Earth Day Committee (FEDC) recently announced the theme for this year’s annual “green” celebration. The theme poses the question, “How Green is Our Town?” Attendes will learn the answer to this from an array of local residents, organizations and buisnesses that are leading and supporting green initiatives in Fairfield. The goal is to give out as much information about the services and products available in and around Fairfield in order to create a green infrastructure for the town.
The Celebration is partnering with Fairfield-based American Towns and its new project, GreenTowns, which applaudes local initiatives and shares them both locally and nationally. For the 7th year in a row, Maritime Motors will also be sponsoring Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration, and will provide numerous activities for all ages. Town departments, schools, organizations and businesses will all be represented. Fairfield First Selectman, Mike Tetreau, will kick off Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration at 10:15am.
This year in addition, Team Crazed Carrots, a Connecticut based Destination Imagine Team will be one of the featured exhibits. This group, consisting of six children ranging from age 8-11, proudly won their division at the State Tournament, which was held at Connecticut College in March. The members will perform their winning presentation that describes their project on protecting threatened wildlife. After the performance, guests will have an opportunity to talk to the kids about their project and bid on something in their silent auction!
Earthmint will also be exhibiting at the Celebration. Earthmint specializes in providing complete geothermal heating and cooling system design and installation services which many Fairfield residents have recently taken advantage of. In addition, Connecticut State Representative Tony Hwang who has been a long-time supporter of the event will be in attendance.
Fairfield’s Earth Day Celebration will be a fun family-oriented event as well as a valuable learning experience. There will be entertainment for all ages including performances by Mike Dougherty & the All Star Energy Band, a Recycling Magic Show and the 14th annual Trashy Fashions fashion show.
