If you’ve ever wanted to join Cirque du Soleil, check out aerial yoga classes at Vertical Addiction Aerial Arts Studio, a new fitness studio at the Sportsplex. Aerial yoga is a unique and fun workout. Participants use long, silky hammocks, securely suspended from the ceiling, through a series of inversions and acrobatic moves. Not only does this provide a playfully different spin on the normally low-key practice, it also leads to deeper stretching than in traditional yoga. Without support from the ground, aerial yoga requires you to fully engage your muscles and find balance. It isn’t just for experts; everyone from beginners to enthusiasts can be challenged in a new, enjoyable way.

Owner Ashley Popoli opened her first studio in Stamford more than four years ago, with plans to expand. “I was always looking at Fairfield,” she says, explaining that the town demographic of health-conscious individuals searching for tough but fun workouts was a perfect fit for her studio.
