By now everyone is well aware of the energy rate increases for Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating slated to start January 1, 2015. For CL&P customers the rates are increasing from 9.9990 to 12.629 cents per kilowatt-hour. UI’s rates are going from 8.667 to 13.3108 cents per kilowatt-hour. What does this mean for you? It’s an increase of roughly $20 per month for households using 700 kilowatt-hours a month.
Additionally the delivery costs, transmission and other costs are being “adjusted” as well. Unfortunately these costs aren’t something we can decrease by using less power.
The energy rates can be addressed using an alternate supplier. All you need is your CL&P or UI bill to get started.
